21-22 JDES Start Up Letter

Hello Jessie Duncan families,

We are excited for a new school year and would like to welcome you back.  As always, student learning and safety will be our priority.  Although last year had some challenges, we believe that we had a great year with our students.  Thank you again for your support and understanding as we continually adjusted to changing circumstances.   As the new year approaches, COVID-19 is still a factor and we would like to communicate what you can expect from us at school this year.  Please familiarize yourself with the Chinook’s Edge COVID-19 Protocols document.  Below is some additional information to help clarify what to expect this year.

  • Please feel free to pick up and drop off at your child’s school entrance.  Students will enter and exit the building independently.  If you need to drop off items for your child please drop off at the office with your child's name and class. If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher or administration please make a prior appointment with the school office.
  • Please refrain from congregating in groups outside the school.  Once your child is dropped off or picked up we would appreciate it if you continue with your day.  This is sensitive to the current situation and helps children find their parents or guardians at the end of the day.
  • We will not be cohorting at recess this year.  All students will be on the playground with the freedom to choose where they would like to play each recess.
  • We will not be having whole school assemblies.
  • Any food brought from home for sharing must be distributed by school staff. Please connect with your teacher if you would like to send food items.
  • Parents will be given the option of in-person or virtual Parent Teacher Interviews.
  • As of September 9th, we will be able to have class field trips.  Grades 1-3 will also participate in swimming lessons again this year.

Over the past few weeks the situation has continued to evolve with COVID-19.  There is a real possibility that, as a school community, we may need to pivot and adjust protocols again this year.  We will do our best to communicate as quickly and clearly as possible. As indicated by Chinook’s Edge School Division we will take direction from Alberta Health Services.

Finally, we would like to invite you to meet your teacher and view your child’s classroom.  Another email will follow shortly with dates, times and how to sign up for a time to visit the school.

WELCOME everyone and we wish you a happy and safe year!
