Kindergarten 2023-2024

2023-2024 Kindergarten Orientation

BOOK

Thank you for choosing Jessie Duncan Elementary School for your child’s education.  We have an excellent team of dedicated staff and look forward to working with you and your child!

Student placement will be made at the Kindergarten Orientation in September.  Orientation dates are Wednesday, August 30th and Friday, September 1st.  Please use the link above to book your child’s orientation day/time.  Groups of up to 10 students will come to the school.  They are 45 minute slots, where your child will meet the kindergarten teachers and participate in a couple center type activities.  After orientations are complete the Kindergarten teachers will make final class lists.  Parents will be contacted Friday afternoon (September 1st) by email to inform you of your child’s placement and the staggered entry information.

Kindergarten staggered entry will start on September 7th for Tuesday/Thursday classes and September 8th for Monday/Wednesday classes.

We are very much looking forward to getting to know you and your child this coming year!

Yours Truly,

Mrs. Rosenberger and Mrs. Sparks

Kindergarten Supplies & Fees

This year school supplies will be purchased in bulk by the school to minimize the cost to families as we get better prices.  Therefore, the supplies will be ready for the students on the first day of school. The fee for school supplies is $35.00 and will be added to your account in September and can be paid through Student QuickPay. To set up an account and make the payment, please follow the instructions provided.

You will still need to supply your child with indoor shoes (no laces please), a backpack, lunch kit and water bottle.

Kindergarten Program

Kindergarten at Jessie Duncan Elementary School

  • This is a 475 hour program that operates 2-3 days a week for full days.  There is a Monday/Wednesday program and a Tuesday/Thursday program.  Each class will come on a variety of different Fridays (please check the calendar).  You will receive a kindergarten calendar in the fall or you can check it out on our school website.
  • center approach is used to reinforce and teach concepts in language arts, math, community and environmental awareness, personal and social responsibility, creative and cultural expression.
  • Focus is on all aspects of child development -- social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional.
  • We have daily Physical Education time.
  • We have a weekly Music class taught by Mrs. Klassen.
  • We have daily morning and afternoon snacks as well as lunch.  The children are not allowed to share food.  No peanuts or nuts please -- we strive to be a nut-safe school.  Please send a labeled water bottle that students can leave at the school.
  • We go outside for all recesses.  Please make sure your child has the appropriate footwear and clothing for the weather. We encourage students to wear shoes that are velcro or have stretched cords instead of lace up shoes.  It is also very helpful to have your child’s outdoor clothes labeled.
  • Please send an extra set of clothes (underwear, 1 pair of socks, shirt and pants) in a labeled ziploc bag. These clothes should remain at the school.
  • All questions and concerns can be addressed through email or a phone call to the school (403 886 2233).
  • School Council/Parent Society - all parents are welcome and encouraged to be a part of this parent group.  They meet the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.  Check the school newsletter for meeting dates.
